Frequently Asked Questions

Do you provide virtual or in-person appointments?

I currently provide both. Telehealth is available on Mondays and Tuesdays and in-person is available on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Will health insurance cover therapy appointments?

I am contracted with Premera, Regence, Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Anthem, and Lifewise. It is strongly encouraged that you contact your insurance provider to discuss co-pay, co-insurance, and deductible costs prior to beginning therapy.

What if I do not have health insurance?

My sliding scale slots are full at this time, I will change this section when the sliding scale slots open back up. I accept two sliding scale clients at a time. Full rates would be due at the time of service:

$200 for intake

$150 for individual or couples counseling

What is a clinical social worker?

Social workers are specifically trained to take into account society’s effects on individuals from a social justice lens. Social workers are holistic in diagnosing a problem and will engage in problem solving with the client in addition to providing mental health treatment.

What is your perspective as a mental health therapist?

I see mental health symptoms as adaptive to an unsupportive environment and our job together is to discover what the missing support was and give that to you.

I use somatic (related to the body) work and Internal Family Systems to facilitate new experiences with familiar painful emotional states in order to teach the body that it is safe. It might look like my asking to use different language or pausing in conversation to offer a moment of guided mindfulness if emotional pain shows up in the therapy room.

What is the difference between life coaching and psychotherapy?

Mental health therapy addresses emotional distress and distress patterns and enacts clinical interventions to change your relationship to yourself. It aims to help you feel more secure. We will look at your past and present. We will practice mindfulness and intentionality with thought ruminations/spirals/obsessions, the body’s alarm system, and feelings of helplessness or hopelessness. We will work to appreciate your innate wisdom that you may not be aware of. We can even practice cultivating confidence and joy.

Life coaching focuses on present and future goals. We will create timelines and action steps. We will look at material hinderances like an unorganized home or schedule. Do you feel unable to keep track of things? Are you forgetting important dates due to lack of organization? Do you have a goal in mind, but have a hard time finding time and space to pursue because of lack of organization? Do you just want someone to be accountable to with your plans? Do you want someone to talk it all through with so you can make and enact a plan? If emotions end up being the underlying issue then a referral to mental health therapy will be made at that time.
